First Day of School

As is our tradition you must get your picture taken on the front porch on the first day of school before I walk you to class.

Jackson is headed to 4th Grade (with a sprained wrist from a bike accident)

Joey is off to his first day of Kindergarten

Joey with his new teacher Ms. Stone

He's so happy to be at his desk, can't you tell.

This was as close as Jackson would let me get to his classroom. He's officially too old for mom to walk him to class. He saw his friends outside and said, "See ya, Mom!" See ya? See ya? No kiss good bye. No pictures? It was all I could do to get him to pose for this quick pic.

Jake started his first day of preschool the next day.
2 whole hours of quiet for mom!
He loves his new teacher Mrs. Norton.

No More Tonsils for Joey or Joey

Last Monday we went to Tucson for school shopping and to take Joey to see the ENT specialist. He looked Joey over and said that he'd really benefit from getting his tonsils and adenoids out. (We already knew this). So when we went to schedule it they were very accommodating in helping us get it done before he starts kindergarten. She said she could get us in that Thursday.

So Scott and I took Joey back to Tucson a few days later to have his surgery. He was pretty nervous but we read a book together about what happens to a little boy when he gets his out and his big brother Jackson also told him all about the sweet gas and not feeling anything. He took his monkey, also named Joey, for moral support. The nurses took one look at him and decided he needed his tonsils out too. Joey was so excited they could both get their tonsils out.

He was very brave and did remarkably well during recovery. I really expected him to whine and complain but he was very good about drinking his liquids and didn't hardly complain. When it was all over the nurse asked if he wanted to look at his tonsils. When she brought them back she said she was shocked at how large they were. She said they normally put them in a little vial but that his were so large they had to put them in a cup. No wonder he couldn't breathe and talked through his nose. He's a trooper.

Joey the monkey gets a hat too!

All done. Look at the size of those things!

Not a Baby Anymore

So my baby grew up this week and became a toddler. I cried when I realized she was no longer a baby. She's been taking steps for about a month but last Sunday she just started walking more than crawling. Each day she was walking more and more and by today, a week later, she's walking everywhere. She walked all the way to Nana's house yesterday. She's so proud of herself.

She's also started climbing up and down off and on furniture. Up until this week you had to make sure you were right there in case she fell off but this week it clicked and she figured out how to get up and down. Her favorite thing is crawling up and down onto Jackson's old rocking chair. She'll sit here and rock her baby and her stuffed animals. She likes to give them loves.
She's so independent and doesn't want you to help her with anything. She's one stubborn girl. I don't know where she get's that from. ; ) We'll celebrate her first birthday next week and I think she's ready!
